Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare the baking pan by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter until it’s completely liquid. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
  • Remove melted butter from heat and let it cool slightly before mixing with the sugars.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Add the eggs one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture, whisking until fully incorporated.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and gently fold until combined without overmixing.
  • Fold in chocolate chips or chunks if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Allow brownies to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is melted but not hot, allow eggs to reach room temperature, and do not overmix the batter.
