Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare your baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa powder, and espresso powder. Whisk until well combined.
  • In another bowl, melt the butter and mix in the canola oil. Allow it to cool slightly.

Mixing

  • Add the granulated sugar to the cooled butter and oil mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.
  • Beat in the eggs and egg yolk one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract, if using, mixing until well combined.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, being careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick. It should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes.
  • Lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper and cut them into squares.

Notes

Measure flour accurately to prevent density, let the butter mixture cool before adding eggs, and use high-quality cocoa for richer flavor. Allow brownies to cool completely before cutting for clean edges. Consider variations like adding nuts or different chocolate chips.
