Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for structure)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (to aid rising)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (enhances flavor)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (adds richness)
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional, enhances chocolate flavor)

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (for moisture and richness)
  • 2 Tablespoons oil (canola, vegetable, or coconut for added moisture)
  • 1 and 1/3 cups granulated sugar (sweetness)
  • 2 large eggs (binds ingredients)
  • 1 large egg yolk (adds richness)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional, enhances flavor)

Add-ins

  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (for texture and extra chocolate flavor)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by preheating your oven.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • If using espresso powder, add it to the bowl with your dry ingredients.
  • In a separate large bowl, melt the butter with the oil. Let it cool slightly before adding the sugar.
  • Gradually mix the sugar into the melted butter and oil until well incorporated.
  • Add the eggs and egg yolk to your mixture, mixing gently until combined.
  • If using vanilla extract, add it now.
  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until no dry flour is visible.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Prepare a baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the edges look set but the center has a slight wiggle.
  • Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Do not overmix the batter; this keeps the brownies fudgy. Let the brownies cool completely before cutting for neat squares.
