Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed adds moisture
  • 1/4 cup neutral oil (canola) enhances texture
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips provides rich chocolate flavor
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee or espresso (optional) enhances chocolate flavor
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature creates a fudgy texture
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla boosts flavor

Dry Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour provides structure
  • 1/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder adds depth of flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt balances sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder helps with leavening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar sweetens and contributes to texture

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F and greasing your 8-inch square baking pan or lining it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the cubed butter, neutral oil, and semisweet chocolate chips. Stir until everything has melted smoothly.

Mixing

  • Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the granulated sugar until fully combined.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the dry mixture into the chocolate mixture with a rubber spatula, being careful not to overmix.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it into an even layer.
  • Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cooling and Serving

  • Once baked, allow the brownies to cool in the pan a bit before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Slice into squares and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use room-temperature eggs and avoid overmixing the batter. You may also incorporate nuts or chocolate chunks for added flavor.
